Award Certificate and Flag received from the Florida Green Building Coalition

Palmetto Bay received the award Certificate from the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) which will be proudly displayed at Village Hall along with the FGBC Flag.

Palmetto Bay's certification as a Green City by the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) is important to me.  As your Mayor, I have always been committed to responsible environmental stewardship, running a village that is healthy in all respects: in its sense of community, preserving our environment as well as financially.

Making a subtle statement.  I chose the photo location at left, directly in front of a solar charging station - a sample of what will be coming soon to our village parks as well as village hall.

The FGBC Green Local Government Standard designates Green Cities and Green Counties for outstanding environmental stewardship. It is expected that certified green city and county governments will not only gain recognition and publicity, but also function in a more efficient manner through better internal communication, cost reductions, and effective risk and asset management. 

Palmetto Bay Pine area clean up - Coral Reef Park - look forward to a similar opportunity for the 22 acres at the PBVC

I continue in the fight to save imperiled Pine Rockland Habitat and assisting in taking care of what we have preserved.  I am posting some photos from a community effort here in our Village.
Coral Reef Park is home to 5 acres +/- of Pine Rocklands.  Some of the area is turning to oak/hardwood hammock.  Palmetto Bay hosted a pinelands clean up as park of the Saturday, 11/5/2016 events.  

Professions, enviro activists and students volunteered and worked together for the second consecutive year to clean up this precious Pine Rockland Preserve area located in Coral Reef Park. This clean-up included removal of debris, loose clippings and removal of invasive species of plants inside the park’s Pine Rockland Preserve area.  

Thank you to all who participated including students from BIOTECH, Riviera and Ferguson High Schools; The Miami Pine Rockland Coalition; members/enviro activists from Livable Cutler; local residents and park staff.  It was another outstanding community effort.

Introducing the "Green Team"!

I am proud to accept a "Green Team" Club shirt from Coral Reef Elementary PTA President Erica Watts. [given to me at the Educational Advisory Committee (EAC) meeting of Tuesday, 4/5/2016 - Erica Watts is a member of our Village EAC, along with currently serving as Coral Reef PTA president].

The Mission of the CRE Green Team is "... to promote and improve environmental stewardship, teach civic responsibility through school-wide initiatives and nurture a passion for sustainable living practices in order to strengthen our community."

The Students, Teachers, administration, staff and Parents, particularly those hard working PTA Teachers/Parents are hard at work to be recognized as a "Green School".
