Does this photo provide any stimulus to anyone regarding any recent crimes? It is unfortunate that crime happens. We cannot ignore or deflect it, leadership requires accuracy and action. I don't keep "regular office hours" as concerns come up anytime, on any day.  Weekends, weekdays, morning, noon or early evening  though I have yet for anyone to request to join me on one of my 'insomnia (bike) rides'. 

I will meet at Village Hall, your home, at a neutral location - as well as the location of the concern.

A Friday drive with a resident of Malbrook (no photo taken - we toured area traffic hot spots, the PBVC, Village Hall)
An evening meeting with the Underwood family - viewing their neighborhood cut through issue.

A meeting with home owners - Crimewatch meeting where we discussed recent crime trends, traffic, downtown Palmetto Bay and the PBVC.

This article addresses Cyber Monday — the Monday after Thanksgiving, when many people buy gifts from online sellers.

Tips are provided to help keep you from getting a migraine down the road. (the full article is very detailed and should be read in its entirety.) The tips are really applicable full time, year round, shopping over the Internet and not just to Cyber Monday.

• Plan ahead.

• Know the retailer’s return and exchange policies.

• Read the fine print.

• Check your order twice before confirming a purchase.

• Start a file folder.

As Ms. Caldwell advises: … the FBI is reminding people this holiday season that cyber criminals continue to aggressively seek ways to steal money and personal information. Scammers are using several techniques to fool potential victims including sending unsolicited emails that contain false information by setting up spoofing websites that look like legitimate commercial sites and unleashing phishing and vishing (theft using voice-over-Internet technology) attacks where individuals receive emails or phone calls asking for personal data. So it’s important not to open anything that looks suspicious. Use that “delete” key immediately.

These cyber-scammers will do whatever they can to steal your money and personal information this holiday season and are trying many different ways to commit these crimes, according to the FBI.

The mayor was welcomed by Peter England, chair of the Palmetto Bay Village Voice, a citizen’s organization committed to transparency in government, which was the event organizer. 

The Palmetto Bay Village Voice has also recently presented a Seminar on the formation and importance of Citizens' Crime Watches in our community through the participation of Carmen Caldwell, Executive Director of Citizens' Crime Watch, as the featured speaker. 

The community outreach event was part of an ongoing series sponsored by Palmetto Bay Village Voice.  The Palmetto Bay Village Voice is a non-partisan, objective source for community news. The PBVV is a not-for-profit Florida corporation with the specific purpose to increase local government transparency and accountability through education and communication, and to promote active resident participation in our Village.

The Palmetto Bay Village Voice is proud to present a Seminar on the formation and importance of Citizens' Crime Watches in our community.

With the recent reports of increases in property crime, this is subject of great interest to every home and business owner.

We have been fortunate enough to secure Carmen Caldwell as our featured speaker. Ms. Caldwell has been the Executive Director of Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade since 2000, overseeing thousands of Neighborhood Crime Watch Groups. Carmen will address basics of setting up a Citizen's Crime Watch in your neighborhood, and will be available to answer any questions you may have.

She will be introduced by Commander Greg Truitt, who is responsible for the policing unit of the Village of Palmetto Bay.

The event will be held at the Palmetto Bay Village Center, 18001 Old Cutler Road, in the 3rd Floor Palm Room at 7 PM on Thursday, January 19th. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome.
