A great Village Facebook post from 2015. It was my pleasure at that time to recognize the team behind the annual Palmetto Bay Boat Parade and Food Drive: (back) Dave Lundy and Noel Schael, and (front, l to r) Luis Fernandez, young Matthew and Victor, and Rainer Schael.

The Palmetto Bay Canal Association had been holding an annual Boat Parade and Canned Food Drive over many years. It provided a wonderful opportunity for friends and neighbors to get together as a community and express their holiday spirit through brightly lit boats cruising throughout the Village’s picturesque canals.

A very important component of the Boat Parade is the Canned Food Drive. Each year, the members of the Canal Association encourage boaters and parade watchers to donate canned goods that assists the Village of Palmetto Bay in its annual food drive effort. The cooperation and collaboration that the Village receives from the donations provided at the Boat Parade greatly increases the number of food items that we can provide to those less fortunate. Residents Rainer and Noël Schael have remained dedicated, tireless, and consistent in their coordination and leadership of the Palmetto Bay Canal Association and Canned Food Drive. With the service of these outstanding residents, the Village benefits from the festive and fun Boat Parade, but also feeds those who are in need of our help. Their giving spirit is commendable and invaluable.  Thank you to the Palmetto Bay Canal Association for your spirit of community and good will to all!

Yes Virginia, there will be a Palmetto Bay Boat Parade in 2018

I love a good parade #SmallTownUSA  The Palmetto Bay Boat Parade has been developing  for years.  The boat parade will move forward this year under new leadership.

The parade will take place on Saturday, December 15 -for those who live along the canal and the boat parade route, plan your backyard parties now. There is always a supportive group stationed along the banks of Coral Reef Park.

If you have a boat and would like to participate, please contact Jeri Schwartz-Allen for details of the parade route, time etc. For more information on the history of as well as to see photos from past events, please see my prior posts regarding the Palmetto Bay Boat Parades: (CLICK HERE)

​​​​The plan to collect canned goods (as of today) is to have a couple of volunteer boats to collect the canned goods from the canal banks. There will also be a donation box at Coral Reef Park’s Boat Ramp where the boats as years past have gathered just before the parade starts.

Past start times have been 5:30 at Coral Reef Park but stay tuned for the updates.

The plan this year is for the boat parade to begin heading south from Coral Reef Park to the fork by Bill Sodowski Park. Boats will then turn around and head back north to go through Coral Reef Park a 2nd time and then on to the lake to circle around and head back.

Palmetto Bay boat parade updates - don't forget the canned food drive

Palmetto Bay Boat Parade - this is the weekend - Saturday, December 16, 2017.  Here are some last-minute updates.

Along with the fun and festivities, this is also a time to focus on "Community".  This is a canned food drive event. Canned food will be accepted at the pedestrian bridge at Coral Reef Park  between the hours of 4:30 to 5:30 PM, at Bill Sadowski Park and (as is tradition) handed over along the boat Parade route. Please note that Donations can also be made at Village Hall.

Canned food donations will be accepted at the pedestrian bridge at Coral Reef Park between 4:30 and 5:30pm, at Bill Sadowsli Park and along the parade route.

Will there be a Palmetto Bay Holiday Boat Parade in 2017? #YourVoiceMatters

The annual time of year has been reached when I begin to field questions about the date for the "Palmetto Bay Holiday Boat Parade." Many canal residents plan their holiday parties so that guests can enjoy this parade as well as donating to the canned food drive.

This year may be different.  The question is not "when", but "if". Will there be a Palmetto Bay Holiday Boat Parade in 2017?  Your support may be needed.  This is a true #YourVoiceMatters.  I am a supporter.  Palmetto Bay Holiday Boat Parade is a wonderful community event that brings participants, friends and neighbors together in the holiday spirit, collecting canned food for a good cause, and is supported both by members of the residential community as well as a local business.

This is not a Palmetto Bay official event (maybe it should be).  It is put together by an all volunteer group - The Palmetto Bay Canal Association - which is made up of Palmetto Bay (and Pinecrest) residents who are both users and stewards of our local canal system. The group includes pleasure boaters, fishermen, skiers, canoers and kayakers.

Happy Thanksgiving - 2014.

There is much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Alexandra, Katherine, Meredith and I wish you and your family the happiest of holidays. 

Like millions of others across this great country, we will celebrate Thanksgiving, honoring a tradition older than the nation itself. The Continental Congress proclaimed that the "inhabitants of these states" observe a day of Thanksgiving back in 1782.  Ever since then we set this day aside to give thanks for all our blessings, and this year we have many things for which to be thankful.

 

Please also take the time to remember and help the less fortunate.  Many families and children are doing with less, Take the time to become involved in a local charity, with time, if not a donation. There are many ongoing charities that are looking for donations and volunteers. The Palmetto Bay Canal Association will be collecting canned foods during its 5th Annual boat Parade scheduled for Saturday, December 20. 

 

Thanksgiving is the busiest traveling season of the year.  Please be aware and be safe.

Once again, an annual "thank you!" to Rainer & Noel Schael, as well as all the members and participants of the Palmetto Bay Canal Association Holiday Boat Parade.

Another  wonderful holiday evening was had for the participants and shoreline festive partygoers on Saturday, December 15.  The Fourth Annual Palmetto Bay Canal Association Holiday Boat Parade moved forward along the C100 canal. The canal was lined with Palmetto Bay residents and guest who observed the parade as part of their festive parties or simply set up chairs or even a bonfire or two, to watch the parade.  Vice Mayor John Dubois and Council members Patrick Fiore and Tim Schaffer again participated this year.  CLICK HERE to view photos of the 2013 event that I have posted on my personal Facebook page.

The boat parade participants picked up hundreds of canned food collected by residents and passed off from the canal banks to the participating boats.  Great work for all the donations!

First call - any ideas for the 4th annual Palmetto Bay Boat Parade?

Preliminary preparations for the 4th Annual Palmetto Bay Canal Association Holiday Boat Parade (and canned food drive) are in the works.

This outstanding event was the creation of and has been continuously sponsored by Palmetto Bay Canal Association.  They're considering Saturday, December 21 - any thoughts? As usual, we'll start around dark at Coral Reef Park and head south, collecting cans along the way. The group is hoping to hit 1,000 cans this year!

The Third Annual Palmetto Bay Canal Association Holiday Boat Parade held Sat, Dec 15, 2012, links to photos

A  wonderful holiday evening was had on Saturday, December 15.  The third Annual Palmetto Bay Canal Association Holiday Boat Parade* moved forward along the C100 canal. The canal was lined with Palmetto Bay residents and guest who observed the parade as part of their festive parties or simply set up chairs or even a bonfire or two, to watch the parade. The boat parade participants were actually able to pick up canned food collected by residents and passed off from the canal banks to the participating boats.  The canned food was collected for “Feeding South Florida” formerly known as the Daily Bread Food Bank.

This is a fun family event privately organized by the Palmetto Bay Canal Association. The group is again collecting canned food along with local eatery “Hole in the Wall Pub.” An after parade party was held at the Hole in the Wall Pub on 184 Street.

This is a wonderful community event that brings participants, friends and neighbors together in the holiday spirit, raises food for a good cause, and is supported both by members of the residential community as well as a local business.
