Art removed 1-14-19

I noticed this photo today, Monday, January 14, 2019 - someone on Facebook calling out the removal of the (temporary art installation) as "...nothing short of a victory for all the amazing residents in Pinecrest."  I respectfully disagree. This is a thought provoking project on an issue of great impact to Florida - and the entire Earth.

Not everyone may have loved it. And not everyone may have had the chance to see several Pinecrest intersections painted as part of Xavier Cortada's Underwater HOA.

The Village of Pinecrest, an upscale residential neighborhood far from the hectic Basel hot zones, would like to get visitors' attention via a community-wide participatory art project entitled Underwater HOA. Through markers placed by residences on the community’s 6000 houses and an art exhibition by environmental artist Xavier Cortada, this typically non-exhibitionist town is inviting the rest of the world to get a glimpse of its future.

The pressure cleanings may be using water to remove this temporary street art, but numerous homes (more than just within Pinecrest; many in and around Palmetto Bay) continue to participate in this environmental participatory art project.

Update on how voting No on Amendment 1 is actually PRO SOLAR

I am proud to have authored the resolution put before the Palmetto Bay Village Council recommending residents to vote NO on (State Constitutional) Amendment 1 - The resolution passed by a 3 - 2 vote.  Most if not every other municipality that has passed this resolution has passed it unanimously, but that is another story for another time. 

I represented Palmetto Bay at Pinecrest Gardens on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, where Village of Palmetto Bay resident and artist Xavier Cortada along with Cutler Bay Solar Solutions' Raul Vergara explained why voting NO on AMENDMENT 1 is actually pro-solar.

Art Presentation: Let the Sunshine in Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay & Cutler Bay

Teamed with Cutler Bay Solar Solutions, Xavier Cortada painted three solar panels with suns, each named Let The Sunshine In. The idea is to raise awareness of the right way to vote on the Amendment by temporarily placing these panels in public spaces within Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay.

Xavier Cortada has created a "friendly competition" that pits the three municipalities against each other to see which populous will have the highest percentage of NO VOTES on Amendment 1.(This is obviously another 'friendly competition amongst the sister cities where we all win.) The winner will get first choice of the art. Xavier Cortada will then award each of the art pieces for permanent installation, renaming them Let The Sunshine In Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay and Pinecrest.

Pictured below are three art pieces set as gifts for the three municipalities- art intended to help people understand and appreciate the sun and its renewable energy possibilities.

Meeting to shed some light on State Const. Amendment No. 1

Join us on Wednesday Oct 26 at 7:00 pm at Pinecrest Gardens to highlight the importance of protecting and promoting Solar in Florida, by voting NO on Amendment 1 .

We will have a special presentation by artist, activist, & Palmetto Bay resident, Xavier Cortada.

Council Member Howard Tendrich, a strong supporter of the greening of Palmetto Bay - Invites everyone to celebrate Arbor Day festivities in Palmetto Bay

Congrats Howard - an official who gets it and is a true supporter of green: Council member Howard Tendrich is a strong supporter of continued Arbor Day events. As reported in the Community Newspapers/Miami Herald, Village to celebrate Arbor Day with poster contest, free trees

Howard is looking forward to the event because he has a long-standing commitment to the environment. “As a proud participant in the Tree City USA program, Palmetto Bay is excited to host this two-day Arbor Day celebration,” Tendrich said. “Our celebration not only offers a fun, educational component for village youth, but the event also involves parents and other adults by motivating them to plant free trees throughout our community.”

Past events have included renowned Eco Artist Xavier Cortada at the events held with the Palmetto Bay Garden Club at Ludovici Park in January 2010.  Both the Garden Club and Xavier worked with area youth who came out an participated in an outstanding eco learning experience.
