6:00 PM Update. FPL update telephone conference was held today by FPL President Eric Silagy/Assessment - team Palmetto Bay working hard at Debris Removal and meeting with our collaborative government partners – State Senate, County Commission, sister cities.

Stories are coming in regarding neighbors assisting each other.  We are a Village! Great stuff  please keep it up.  

I have met with or spoken to counterparts of the State of Florida, County, and adjoining municipalities.  Here is my 6:00 PM Update:

Working with FPL - coordination of efforts. Back on the streets - mid morning team meeting, conference call with FPL  Hurricane Irma will be the biggest restoration job ever faced by FPL.  Patience is appreciated.  I am hoping for restoration of service in less than 7 days.  The west coast will face a longer restoration period.

FPL President Eric Silagy stated that remains fully committed to working as hard and as long as it takes to get the very last customer back up and running as quickly as possible.

I have continued to state our local, municipal commitment, to work in a way that expedites the process that we want to collaborate our street clearing and security in a manner that allows FPL to work faster throughout Palmetto Bay and get our community back up and running as quickly as possible.

DEBRIS REMOVAL - restoration of our Parks:  Please rest assured that Palmetto Bay is geared up and is on the street - coordinated efforts through our Village Manager Ed Silva.

Team meeting was held today - updating on the assessments to date and getting to restoration. Focus is on clearing major streets and moving inward to the interior neighborhood streets.  

I have received reports of neighbors pitching in and clearing their neighborhood streets.  I would like to know and give credit to these volunteers.  And, please, just stack the debris safely by the side of the road. County and Municipal contractors will get by and pick up the debris.  There is no reason to attempt to take this debris to any County bulky Waste.

INTERGOVERNMENTAL MEETINGS:  My day also included a meeting with our Commissioner Daniela Levine Cava and Mayor Peggy Bell, from our sister city Cutler Bay.   We were joined by our State Senator José Javier Rodríguez. Important issues were discussed including continuation of County/Municipal Services, debris removal, the canals, power restoration and discussing the evacuation issues.

GARBAGE Collection.  Garbage collection has been SUSPENDED until further notice.  As you would expect, the focus is on bulky waste pick up.
