Reminder - US1 Express Toll Lane Project meeting Wednesday

Reminder!  The Pinecrest Town Hall Meeting will be held this Wednesday, November 14, 2012,at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 Red Road, Pinecrest, FL.

The purpose of this meeting is a discussion of the proposed US1 Express Toll Lane Project.  This project will profoundly impact the US1 traffic and our neighborhoods.  You should be aware of what is going on in advance and not wait for the plan to become a 'done deal' before you decide whether this project benefits or harms our communities.

Pinecrest leaders want to inform South Miami-Dade residents area about proposed plans to replace the South Miami-Dade Busway with a toll road from Dadeland Mall south, possibly all the way to Florida City.  Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerner has taken the leadership role, stating that the meeting is aimed at informing the surrounding community of unofficial plans to ease traffic on US1.

See the Miami Herald article, Meeting to discuss toll road next to U.S. 1 in South Dade, by Ashley Lopez, for more information.  "... (R)ight now, only a few people even know there are plans for projects on the Busway, which is a two-lane highway that only buses can use."  “I want to start a dialogue,” Lerner said. “The general public is completely unaware of what’s being prepared.”

Who is involved?   Chambersouth, EDC, Pinecrest, and Cutler Bay is engaged and participating, but sadly, Palmetto Bay is not.  I recommend that Palmetto Bay residents pay attention to the progress of this plan.  Palmetto Bay councilman Howard Tendrich had been championing this issue for Palmetto Bay residents.
