Village History Update - Part VI – Art In the Park - 10 year anniversary – An event that will be missed

The Cultural Council’s “Art In the Park” was another incredible event that was briefly part of Palmetto Bay’s history deserving of mention on this 10 year anniversary. This was a great event that was held for several years at Coral Reef Park before moving on to the Palmetto Bay Village Center (PBVC).  It was first held in October 2003, having returned after a brief hiatus after a long run at Fairchild Tropical Gardens. The Art Show was the result of the same collaboration of the first Village Council in partnership with the Cultural Council. It is unfortunate that neither the Jazz or Art shows remain in Palmetto Bay.  Click "Read more" below to view all 20 photos from the first Art Show and its set up.  More general history of the Jazz Under the Stars and the partnership with the Cultural council is contained in the prior post: “Village History Update - Part V – Jazz Under The Stars - 10 year anniversary”

Village History Update - Part V – Jazz Under The Stars - 10 year anniversary

The 10 year anniversary, a good time to remember some great events that briefly sparked in Palmetto Bay.  Palmetto Bay was blessed to have so many members of the Cultural Council residing within its (then) newly formed borders.  I recall attending a Jazz Under the Stars when it was held at Metro Zoo.  A brief partnership formed between the first Palmetto Bay Council and the Cultural Council after incorporation, and through the efforts of our first Manager Charles Scurr and initial Parks Director Ana Garcia, as well as Yolly Buchmann, Lois Neidhardt, Betty Noe, Maria Kesti and so many others with the Council.  We had two of their events.  One such event was the Art in the Park, but more on that in another post.  I am posting this time about one clear March night in Palmetto Bay when the Palmetto Bay Village Center (PBVC) (thank you Scott Silver and team) and the Cultural Council put on "Jazz Under The Stars" on March 6, 2004.  Neither event occurs any longer within Palmetto Bay.  Click "Read more" below to view additional photos from this Jazz event. Note the Cultural Council has recently combined both the Art in The Park and Jazz Under the Stars into ART and ALL THAT JAZZ last held Saturday, January 14th, 2012. It is unfortunate that Jazz Under the Stars is no longer held in Palmetto Bay, but this 2004 event did mark the start of the PBVC becoming a home to so many outstanding events, indoor as well as outdoor for Palmetto Bay and surrounding residents.
