The Wabasso Tackle Shop – a temporary reprieve for a local landmark. Reopening under a former owner, but slated to be taken down for future development.

Iconic shop, iconic location. A great local bait shop. The landmark my family passes by when arriving in Vero (Orchid Island) for a long weekend.  And yes, where my daughters and I stop in to buy bait and try to figured out how to best fish the local area. TCPalm.Com reports that Steve Parsons plans to return from retirement and resume business at the shop he bought in 1978.

I go there when in town and I brought back the hat. One interesting experience I’ve had is how many fellow Palmetto Bayers recognize the Wabasso Tackle Shop hat (and, obviously, the store) here in Palmetto Bay.

Businesses may be local, but this is a prime example of the far reaching impact that local stores that serve tourist industries like Florida fishing can have.

It is very sad to learn that the retirement back into business will be short lived.  The business is on short-term as the County will eventually have to buy (take) the property when it expands 510 in the next few years.
