MEETINGS CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE FOR RAIL

Advocating for rail is more than just showing up to the major hearings. Significant time and effort go on behind the scenes and between the major hearings.

I continue to meet with members of the TPO relating to the SMART Plan, advocating for traffic relieve.  The TPO meeting continues on August 30, 2018.  For background, please see prior post of July 20, 2018:  SMART Plan update - TPO deferred the decision on the plan to its August 30th meeting. Significant work is going on through many members of the South Dade communities to prepare for the August 30 TPO meeting.

Members of the team met with County Commissioner Eileen Higgens on Friday, 8/24/2018, to discuss our concerns.
We need rail, which will provide substantial release and if not rail then: "Why are we talking about spending a quarter of $1 billion to dress up what we already have? Why aren't we working on a plan to get to where we really need to be"

Why is this important? Rail will take significantly more cars off the road - per Miami-Dade County's own study

I also recommend reading an op-ed article posted Miami Herald online: Alex Penelas: Give South Dade residents the rail transportation that they were promised

August 13, 2018, Miami-Dade County Transit Tax / Rail fight moves to the Courts - filed by County Commissioner Xavier Suarez. Note that the post provides a link to download the complete lawsuit.

I will continue to keep you informed.
