Selenicereus bloom in Palmetto Bay - photo of the day

Photo of the day. Thank you Henry.

Selenicereus, queen of the night flowering cactus - a bloom from last night (evening of June 14, 2018).  I am told that this bloom is fragrant.

Described to me recently as "..., White flowers, almost the size of soccer balls, with bright orange radials should be in bloom."  (Selenicereus grandiflorus, Queen of the Night, or Organillo)

The flowers begin to open at dusk and best viewing is around 10-11 p.m., or later.  The flowers will be closed by morning and will not reopen.

Future smaller blooms are unpredictable and may occur throughout the month.

One of the many wonders of local nature that you can enjoy here in Palmetto Bay.
