Palmetto Bay is actively working to enhance school/community safety, update by: Eugene Flinn - Mayor of Palmetto Bay |February 27, 2018

Community / school safety will take all the jurisdictions working together.  I am working in collaboration with our State, County, School Board and Local leaders.

Our children’s safety is too important. Since the devastating shooting in Parkland, I have been working with fellow mayors and our County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava to do our local/municipal part in making schools safer.

I have personally met with many of our State leaders and our School Board Leaders, including Current Chair, Ms. Perla Tabares Hantman, District 4 and Ms. Susie V. Castillo, District 5. I also held a telephone conference with our own School Board Representative, Dr. Lawrence S. Feldman, District 9. Based upon their feedback, I was able to prepare a memorandum and School Safety Legislative Plan Resolution to be presented to our council. ...

Nov 12, 2015 - appearing before the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation

I was honored to appear before the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation on Thursday, November 12, 2015.  This meeting marked a transition as Senator Anitere Flores, (R 37) completed her term as delegation chair.   The new chair for this coming year is State Rep Jose Felix Diaz (R 116). This is part of ongoing local hearings where our local legislative members hear for their constituents.  Nov 12 was a busy day as almost 100 people testified at this public hearing which focused on education, economic development, agriculture and natural resources.

I meet regularly with our local representatives, whether it is by telephone, or in person both locally or in Tallahassee.  We are privileged to have a very responsive Miami-Dade County Legislative delegation.

Pinecrest and Cutler Bay have been dong quite well with their family bike events.  See Annual Hometown Harvest Bike Ride draws nearly 100, by Gary Alan Ruse Date posted: January 7, 2013.

Cutler Bay’s traditional fall event, the Hometown Harvest Bike Ride, returned for its sixth year on Sunday, Dec. 9 2012, It attracted nearly 100 riders. The purpose of Cutler Bay's annual ride is to provide a fun family event, promote bike safety and encourage more people to use bicycles as transportation.

Palmetto bay used to hold bike rides.  I again offer to volunteer my time to assist in getting this event back on the road.  The initial Palmetto Bay council thanks resident Eric Tullberg for his invaluable assistance in putting these rides together for Palmetto Bay in the past.  See my prior article on past Palmetto Bay Earth Week events, including Eric Tullberg's successes in leading the past Palmetto Bay family bike rides: Reflections on Palmetto Bay's Earth Week celebrations. Palmetto Bay Vice Mayor race update. Karyn Cunningham endorsed by School Board Vice Chair, Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Feldman | South Dade Updates

Palmetto Bay Vice Mayor race update. Karyn Cunningham endorsed by School Board Vice Chair, Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Feldman | South Dade Updates

Great news for those concerned with maintaining a solid partnership with education in Palmetto Bay.  Karyn Cunningham is your candidate for Vice mayor. She has been a strong advocate for education.  Now we can put her talents to use for us, the Palmetto Bay residents, as our next Vice Mayor. She knows our representatives in Tallahassee and we can start re-establishing Palmetto Bay relationships lost in the last 2 years.
