Active updates - All Baptist Health South Florida Run Clubs are paused until further notice due to the current state of the public health crisis of the COVID-19

Miami Run Club

For any Palmetto Bay runners who transferred over to the other clubs once the Tri City/Old Cutler Run Club ceased (as of November 2018):
Hi Run Clubbers, you know how hard we work to try to never ever cancel Run Club. Well, we painfully admit that due to the current state of the public health crisis of the COVID-19 we have decided alongside our partners at Baptist Health South Florida to hit the pause button until further notice on ALL Baptist Health South Florida Run Clubs (Doral, Homestead, Brickell, Kendall, Weston, South Beach, Gables & West Kendall). We love to toe the line and even past most lines with things such as weather but this is an instance where we have to be part of the solution and not add further stress to it. All this being said, we want you to continue to run on your own or with your close friends/fam so that you can come back to Run Club, healthy, stronger and faster than ever. You all know that running helps us deal with all sorts of things. One area we take pride in is knowing that running builds a better community and when we all come back together at Run Club we will pick up right where we left off to continue building what you all started. Runners we encourage you to be 100% RUNNERS. This means standing out for the right reasons. Runners are known to lead because of their strength and healthfulness. It is to all of you who others should turn to see leadership and calmness in your neighborhood, workplace and families. Stay safe and be healthy. We'll stay in touch as we get through this together. #werunmiami South Beach Run Club Baptist Health South Florida Brickell Run Club Homestead Run Club Downtown Doral Run Club West Kendall Run Club Kendall Run Club Gables Run Club Baptist Health South Florida Weston Run Club Kendall Run Club

Turkey Day run - 2016 - Baptist Health Turkey Day Miami 5K/10K

A great day with thousands - THOUSANDS of participants at the Baptist Health Turkey Day 5K/10K run.  Alexandra and I ran once again.  A great warm up for the Thanksgiving feast.
Palmetto Bay resident Desiree Barger won the 10K - Woman's Division.  The second and third place finishers came in 1:53 behind her. That is a very impressive win!

We had many Palmetto Bay residents participating, many of which participate in our tri-city Old Cutler Run Club, sponsored by Baptist Health South Florida.

Here are a few photos - again, running the 5K was a great start to a day of feast time with family.

I am thankful for many things, in part for working with #GetFitPalmettoBay and spending time with friends and family.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Old Cutler Run Club - its a family thing. Its a #GetFitPalmettoBay thing. Join us.

I am so pleased with our version of the Run Club sponsored by Baptist Health South Florida.  October 2, 2016, drew another huge family turn out.  It was a cooler day as well, part due to the time of year - moving into our Fall "season" as well as the misting of rain we received during the run.  Of course, Coral Reef Elementary was well represented with their CRE on the Run club members.  Attendance-wise, this was a tough Sunday, with many participants out of town for the long weekend (Monday being a religious holiday with a school off day).

The route changed ever so slightly this day; taking the run north as usual along Old Cutler, then turning back and running around the Palmetto Bay Village Center.  The run took everyone through the beautiful, scenic pathway of the disputed 22 acres of hardwood hammock and Pineland along Old Cutler Road that I am fighting so hard to save.

Let's use this area for preservation and recreation, not development
Yes, another great week for the Old Cutler Run Club - thank you once again to our Palmetto Bay Parks Department, Baptist Health South Florida, Frankie Ruiz and the "Pineapple Pacers" for another week of fun and fitness.

See you all next Sunday, same time, same location. Remember: #GitFitPalmettoBay #WeRunMiami #WeRunOldCutler

Photos of the day - The Sunday Old Cutler Run Club is off and running- Photos from week 2

The Old Cutler Run Club continues to grow.  This is a Tri-City effort between Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest and Cutler Bay.  We thank our sponsor Baptist Health, South Florida and, of course, all-world runner, Frankie Ruiz as well as the Pineapple Pacers.

I continue to be impressed by the participation from Coral Reef Elementary and its CRE on the Run Club.  The club (run through teacher and parent volunteers) develops healthy activities to our youth.
I am pleased that our village continues to promote a diverse range of activities in our Village Parks. The Amphitheater at Ludovici Park has been used for rehearsals and performances of cultural events, community gathers and now - pre-and post- run club warms ups/cool downs.

I love this new activity - the run club provides yet another purpose to our parks system.  This run club has benefited from significant planning and we have to thank Frankie Ruiz for his expertise and confidence in our area as well as our Sponsor Baptist Health Systems.  Here are some photos from past planning meetings:

April 20 - A great meeting today (4/20/16) at Panera. Formulating a partnership Run Club. Look for it soon. Partnering with Miami-Dade County - MDC Parks (Deering Estate) and our sister communities and it all to be sponsored through Baptist Health Systems. Thank you Frankie Ruiz.
July, 7, Three Mayors and our sponsor working on a tri-city run club. Looking forward to a running start in early September. A Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay collaboration with our sponsor Baptist Health Systems.

Announcing the launching of the Baptist Health Old Cutler Run Club - Sun., Sept. 11, 4:00 PM at Deering Estate

I have another announcement regarding yet another new and exciting outdoor activity in and near Palmetto Bay.  This is another tri-city collaboration in Miami-Dade County District 8.

As many of you know, I have been working on bringing new and exciting activities to Palmetto Bay. We have a great Get Fit Palmetto Bay program that included the Mayor's Fitness Challenge. We started slow.

We have stood, walked, and biked. We are ready to run! Baptist Health has agreed to be our sponsor. We are collaborating with our sister cities Pinecrest and Cutler Bay.

We are looking forward to the launching of the Baptist Health Old Cutler Run Club that we have been working on for the past few months. The kick-off event is taking place on Sunday, September 11, at 4:00 pm at Deering Estates. Getting the word out is critical to the success of the event and Run Club.

Please put this date on your calendar to attend and help kick off this event.

All are welcome to run! My goal? 5K season is coming up with the cooler weather. I am getting ready and especially looking toward this upcoming Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.

There is an official Baptist Health Old Cutler Run Club Facebook page set up to share information.  CLICK HERE to reach this page.

Again, this will be a great club for all levels from new to experienced, social to competitor.  Please join me.  This will be a great place to meet up with all those who #WeRunOldCutler, who want to get started and are looking for collaborating on better ways to run smarter, not harder.

Have fun.

Very truly yours,

Eugene Flinn, Mayor
