Palmetto Bay / Palmetto HS Color Run 2016 - rain dampened the turnout, but not the spirit of those who attended.

We hope to have dry skies for the 2017 Color Run - the late afternoon rain certainly put a damper on the walk up registrations (and turned more than a few pre-registereds) away.  Another day of colorful fun for those who braved the weather.  And yes, Alex and I were not the only one there who had participated in both running events of Saturday, Nov 5.

A great event. #GetFitPalmettoBay for a great cause. It takes a village!

I am posting a few photos to see what you may have missed.

Palmetto Bay Twilight Color Run & Concert - Photos from the event

What a weekend!

The inaugural Color Run 5K was a resounding success with over 500 run/walkers. I was so pleased to see our youth so active - and having so much fun, both in run/walking as well as those who worked so hard in set up and/or operation to make this event such a success. This is our community and the spirit is strong. Please take the time to check out this video by Miami Hal Feldman (earlier post).

A very special thanks to team Coral Reef Elementary who turned out in strong numbers and participated in both the miler and the full 5K.
Yes, we had fun and got quite colorful - and fit - and raised money for Palmetto HS!

We look forward to even more events and continuing to build a strong and prosperous community.

Save the date - Nov 1 - 2015 - FIRST Annual Palmetto Twilight Color Run and Concert

This will be an outstanding event – and there is plenty of time to get ready. The Palmetto HS PTSA is going big on this. It is not just a run - it is a COLOR run! And there is a concert.

This is true family entertainment that I look forward to the success of this event in the Village of Palmetto Bay - your Village of Parks.

WHAT IS A COLOR RUN? : runners past through various stations placed along the route where they are showered with multiple colored powders.  These powders can be made from a food-grade corn starch.  I my opinion, this is yet another reason for you to take part and enjoy the festivities!

The 5K run and concert will take place on November 1, 2015, at Palmetto Bay Park: 17535 SW 95th Av., Palmetto Bay. This 5K is for the benefit of Miami Palmetto Senior High School PTSA - a great event for a great cause. This will be a 5K Color Run, food and music in beautiful Palmetto Bay Park. Run at dusk and spend the evening at the concert afterwards!

Helen Marie Witty Memorial Scholarship Gala this weekend Feb 20 at Fairchild Tropical Gardens

Please join Alexandra and me at the Helen Marie Witty Memorial Scholarship Gala this weekend February 20, 2015.

CLICK HERE to view the official website.  There is information on Helen Marie Witty and how her life was tragically cut short by Carla Wagner, an intoxicated and distracted driver. The money raised by this event is for a memorial scholarship in Helen Witty's name, awarded to theatre students who embody Helen's love of theatre and passion for life as well as their academic and community service achievements.

Now, in 2015, the Helen Marie Witty Memorial Scholarship will receive its funding by hosting a charity gala at Fairchild Tropical Gardens. The scholarship not only benefits Miami Palmetto students, but has grown to include theatre students all across the Miami area who lead by example and steer away from destructive decisions in all aspects of their lives. 25% of the money we raise will be appropriated for a permanent memorial to Helen in upcoming renovation of the Miami Palmetto Senior High School Auditorium.

The goal is to have 100-150 people in attendance and raise $20,000 to keep the scholarship running for the next four years. The event will take place on February 20, 2015 from 7-11 pm at the Garden House in Fairchild Tropical Gardens. This Gala will include a silent auction and entertainment with live cabaret-style student performances from the most talented students in the Miami-area, as well as honor past recipients of the Helen Marie Witty scholarship.

We hope you can attend and participate.  You can also donate to the Helen Marie Witty Memorial Scholarship:  CLICK HERE.
