Subject: FW: Final Report regarding reduction of village wide speed limit to 25 mph - SR 2017028829

See below we just got approval to lower our speed limits on internal roads. This was part of the council direction requesting this and staff and the consultant worked hard in getting this accomplished. Special thanks are due to the County in expediting this.

Respectfully,

Edward Silva
Village Manager
Village of Palmetto Bay

Are you kidding? Slow traffic to 25? This is ridiculous! Let's look at our roads now. Why is 82 Ave the same speed limit as our interior residential roads? Same for 144 St? Why is the answer a speed bump or a roundabout? Why isn't Pinecrest doing this if this were the answer? Maybe make all through roads the same speed limit (35 mph) AND OPEN UP all those in the MASTER PLAN to accommodate the traffic we have today (versus 20+ years ago).

Would it really make a difference? Most of the time speed limits aren't followed. So unless Palmetto Bay is planning on putting more cops in the area stop wasting time on something inconsequential.

Not needed. Would like to see more use of speed humps in high traffic streets. That slows them down.

No way! Reducing the speed limit will not make a difference. No more speed bumps.

Lower speed limit is not the answer. Do not do it.

Very confused as to whether we are trying to rid our roads of traffic are just add more. This would be counterproductive to traffic calming. People will travel these roads regardless of the speed limit due to amount of construction south of us so why slow everyone down even more. Also, most people in the tri-county area do not travel and will not travel on trains or buses since so many people do not have a 9-5 office job. Those alternatives will not in any way alleviate traffic coming from the south. An expressway meeting up with 826 would be only alternative which is not a total and complete waste of taxpayer money.

not necessary. with the stop signs and speed bumps, it's not like there is a lot of speeding anyway. Focus on making the roads and routes better for the population that now lives here rather than making it more frustrating.

  10. Please do not lower the speed limit. It is terrible idea and a waste of tax payer money. We do not have any pedestrian accidents with cars and therefor is not necessary. How about you do someting more productive with your time.

  11. One way to help alleviate traffic is to get cars where they are going and off the road as soon as possible. Lowering the speed limit will only create more bottlenecks such as are currently found around school zones. Please do not go forward with this concept.

only if we rid ourselves of all of the recent, unnecessary annoying humps. The attempts and study of calming have been a waste of money. Also, 30 on 144, and 35 on 152 & 168? The answer is increase 144 to 35, except when approaching 87 Ave.

Please do not lower the speed limit to 25mph. 30mph or 35mph works well.

We already have artificially low speed limits on several roads (e.g. 30 mph on SW 144 St main throughway?). What we need is a focus on reducing TRAFFIC so we all can actually travel at the marked speed limits!

    1. I agree and the answer is rail service for those who can use it. Great comment! Thank you.

Thank you to all who have commented to date. This has been a very healthy debate.
