William H. Glasko, Esq., of the local law firm Golden & Cowan, P.A. is heading up the 2012 Palmetto Bay / Cutler Bay Relay for Life. This event has been an outstanding family fundraising event in past years. Bill is working hard to bring it back strong this year.
The event has moved from its former location off Franjo tothe old Burger King Building - the Palmetto Bay Village Center - at the corner of Old Cutler Road and Eureka Drive (SW 184 Street).
It starts at 4:00 pm on Saturday May 5, and ends at 6:00 am on Sunday, May 6. People form teams from churches, schools, families, businesses, clubs, etc. Teams can be as many people as you like (usually 5-10 or so). Each team has a canopy - a "tailgate tent" - which is set up around an outdoor track. Under your tent, you usually have a folding table. Each team has a team name or theme, and decorates their tents. Also, each team sells something with the proceeds being donated to the charity.
Bill's team usually sells food. People also sell crafts or items, others perform services like massages, face painting, manicures, etc. Many teams set up a sleeping tent behind their canopy so that they can lay down if the mood strikes them in the middle of the night.
There will be a live DJ who plays music all night until Sunday morning, and there are games, activities, entertainment, singing, dancing, and all kinds of things to keep everyone busy. Your team can wear shirts or other clothing to identify yourselves such as your business or school logos, church or fraternity information, etc. Also, students receive community service hours for participating.
There are currently about ten teams. The goal is to have at least 20. Your participation will really help to liven up the event and I promise that you will all have fun. It's a rare opportunity to stay out late - under the stars - with your friends / family / co-workers / whoever. To find out more about the event, you call Bill Glasko AT (305) 297-0920.
To sign up your team, go to http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=37595. Click on SIGN UP - and then START A TEAM - and then follow the directions! There is a $100.00 registration fee which can be divided among your teammates or donated by your organization. If you have any questions, or would like any additional information, please call me on my cell phone. I am the event Chair and I will do my best to answer any questions you may have.
Bill Glasko will send you a separate e-mail about our next meetings if you'd like to come hear a little bit more about the event.
