Palmetto Bay/Cutler Bay: Local charity, Parker-Haar Charities, Inc. is raising money to help longtime Palmetto Bay residents, the Shanahan family. Robert Shanahan was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and lost his voice as a result of the cancer. Rob is a pilot who had just starting work with a local Miami airline when he was diagnosed. He is unable to work while going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments & is having surgery in May to try & restore his voice. Because he had only been employed a few weeks, he lost his job without any benefits or unemployment and won't be able to return to work for approx. six months.
Parker-Haar's 6th annual Hook for Hope fishing tournament will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Black Point Marina. Lines in the water at 7am. Entry fee before June 30th is $200 per boat with four anglers, $50 per additional angler. Prizes include $1,500 for first prize, $1,000 second prize. There are additional prizes including for female & junior anglers as well as raffles & a silent auction. An after party will be held at Black Point Marina with performances by local band, Cutler Stew, after weigh-in & raffles beginning at 3:30pm.
Parker-Haar is looking for sponsors for this event as well as donation of items/services for their raffle & silent auction.
